Visiting Asahikawa Restaurants with Google Reviews of 4.5+ Left Me Stunned
Yakiniku Wajima
Opened on July 1, 2023, this yakiniku restaurant is located in 7-chome Nijo-dori.
Situated near a pedestrian crossing, many people might have noticed it while passing by.
Its prime location near Asahikawa Station makes it a favorite among both locals and tourists.
Apparently, tonkatsu and yakiniku are especially popular among tourists visiting Japan!
Each table is separated by noren (curtains), ensuring privacy—even solo diners can enjoy their meals comfortably.
The large exhaust hood above the grill keeps smoke from spreading, which is a nice touch. You can visit during a work break without worrying about smelling like yakiniku afterward—always a plus!
Lunch Menu Highlights
They offer a variety of rice bowls and set meals, including the Wajima Don, which features thinly sliced meat topped with an egg yolk.
Surprisingly, some menu items are as affordable as 1,000 yen, making it easy to visit without hesitation.
Recommended Dish: Wagyu Sagari Set (2,200 yen including tax)
First, the set drink arrives—a huge beer mug filled with your choice of beverage.
What pairs best with yakiniku? Definitely oolong tea or soda!
Then, the star of the meal arrives—the premium wagyu sagari (hanger steak)!
Just looking at the perfect balance of red meat and marbling is enough to make your mouth water.
The meat is incredibly thick!
The set also includes rice, wakame (seaweed) soup, kimchi, and dipping sauce.
The wakame soup stands out—its sesame oil-infused Korean-style flavor is so good you’ll finish it in no time!
The rice portion is generous too.
Take a look at this thick cut of meat!
Even holding it with tongs, you can tell it’s tender.
Since the grill has strong heat, the meat cooks quickly—a bonus for hungry diners!
The sauce has a mildly sweet flavor that isn’t overpowering.
The moment you take a bite, juicy umami spreads through your mouth, and the melt-in-your-mouth texture is simply divine.
Every bite brings pure happiness, and the tenderness is top-notch!
At 2,200 yen, this meal is an absolute steal.
If you love yakiniku, this restaurant is a must-visit!

Rendezvous Diner
Located on the 1st floor of Makita Building in 4-Jodori 11-chome, this restaurant specializes in roux-based curry and Western dishes.
It’s especially popular among Asahikawa’s curry lovers.
The interior has an unexpected American vibe, with cool knick-knacks creating a playful atmosphere.
There are table seats and a counter, so solo visitors feel at ease.
They even display a photo from when model Ai Tominaga visited!
Menu Highlights
The curry is made with a special combination of broth and locally sourced vegetables, blended with their unique spice mix.
They offer two main curry types:
1.Special Spiced Curry (medium spicy)
2.Special Mild Curry (mild, slightly sweet)
There’s also a mini-size option for kids, plus a kids’ plate, making it a family-friendly spot.
This time, we went with the Special Mild Curry (650 yen, tax included) topped with Pork Cutlet (440 yen, tax included).
First comes the set salad—piled high in a bowl with a tangy dressing that’s spot-on.
There’s also fukujinzuke and rakkyo as curry sides.
The pork cutlet is huge!
It completely covers the rice, making an impressive first impression.
The curry is served in a classic silver dish, which somehow makes it taste even better!
The mild curry has a deep umami and richness, despite being sweet.
As you eat, the flavor keeps building, making it impossible to stop—it disappears in no time!
Thinking back, I should have ordered a large portion…
For those wondering, ordering a large portion increases both the rice and the curry sauce!
The pork cutlet is crispy on the outside and thick inside.
It’s so tender that you can cut it with a spoon, and the fat has a natural sweetness.
Honestly, I could have eaten another whole cutlet—it was that good!
After paying, you receive a service coupon for either vanilla ice cream or a soft drink!
A tough choice, but getting a freebie is always great!
This place is a paradise for curry lovers, and the friendly service makes it even better.
Highly recommended!
